Treatment overview

How flea treatment works

Flea treatment requires targeting all life stages, adult fleas are only a small proportion of the total infestation. Eggs, larvae, and pupae in carpet and soft furnishings make up the majority. We apply a residual insecticide with an insect growth regulator (IGR) component to prevent developing fleas from reaching maturity. Treating pets with a veterinary flea product at the same time significantly improves outcomes.

01
Preparation confirmed
We advise on pre-treatment preparation when booking, vacuuming, pet treatment, and clearing floor areas are important steps that affect effectiveness.
02
Full property treatment
Residual insecticide with IGR applied to all carpeted areas, soft furnishings, and flea harborage points across the property.
03
Re-entry and aftercare
We confirm re-entry timing and aftercare steps, including continued vacuuming and pet treatment.
04
Follow-up if needed
Some flea activity may continue for 2-3 weeks as pupae hatch and contact treated surfaces. We advise on whether a follow-up visit is needed.

Before treatment

Before we arrive

  • Vacate the property for a minimum of 3 hours from the time treatment is completed
  • Pick up toys and loose objects from under beds, under couches, in wardrobes, and adjoining floor areas
  • Vacuum thoroughly before the visit, then empty the vacuum outside, as this brings fleas to the surface and improves the treatment
  • Cover or remove fish tanks and reptile enclosures and switch off their air supply
  • Put away pet food and water bowls
After treatment

What to expect afterwards

  • Do not vacuum for 7 to 10 days after treatment, as this removes the product and reduces its effectiveness
  • Treat your pets for fleas at the same time, ideally on the day of treatment, to break the cycle
  • Ventilate the property on return. A heat pump on dehumidify or a fan heater helps the treatment dry
  • Continued activity for a week or two is normal as eggs hatch into the treated environment, which is expected and part of how the treatment works
  • Contact us if activity has not cleared within the warranty period

Continued pet treatment throughout the post-treatment period significantly improves overall results.

Common questions

Flea treatment, questions we're often asked

This is normal and expected for 2-3 weeks after treatment. Flea pupae are protected inside their cocoons and are not killed by the insecticide, they hatch over the following weeks and are then eliminated when they contact the treated surfaces. Continued vacuuming helps accelerate this process.
Yes, treating your pets with a veterinary-grade flea product at the same time as the property treatment is important for effectiveness. Untreated pets act as a source of re-infestation.
The residual treatment remains active for several weeks. For persistent infestations or properties with ongoing pet activity, a follow-up visit may be recommended.
Yes. Flea pupae can remain dormant for months and hatch when vibration and warmth signals a host is present. This is why vacant properties can have a flea problem even without a current pet.
Yes, we recommend vacating the property during treatment and for the period advised afterwards, usually 1-2 hours until surfaces have dried.
