Signs you need treatment

Signs of a flea problem in the home

Bites on ankles and legs
Small red bites — often around the ankles and lower legs — that itch intensely, particularly after walking through carpeted areas.
Visible fleas jumping
Small dark insects jumping on carpet, furniture, or bedding — particularly noticeable against light-coloured surfaces.
Pets scratching excessively
Cats or dogs scratching, biting, or grooming more than usual — particularly around the neck, base of the tail, and abdomen.
Flea dirt on pets or bedding
Black pepper-like specks on pet fur, pet bedding, or carpets — flea excrement that turns red when wet.
Vacant property infestation
Dormant flea pupae can survive for months and hatch when vibration signals a new occupant — common in previously vacant properties.
New rental or property
Fleas in a newly occupied rental — common where previous tenants had pets and the property was not treated between tenancies.
Treatment overview

How flea treatment works

Flea treatment requires targeting all life stages — adult fleas are only a small proportion of the total infestation. Eggs, larvae, and pupae in carpet and soft furnishings make up the majority. We apply a residual insecticide with an insect growth regulator (IGR) component to prevent developing fleas from reaching maturity. Treating pets with a veterinary flea product at the same time significantly improves outcomes.

01
Preparation confirmed
We advise on pre-treatment preparation when booking — vacuuming, pet treatment, and clearing floor areas are important steps that affect effectiveness.
02
Full property treatment
Residual insecticide with IGR applied to all carpeted areas, soft furnishings, and flea harborage points across the property.
03
Re-entry and aftercare
We confirm re-entry timing and aftercare steps — including continued vacuuming and pet treatment.
04
Follow-up if needed
Some flea activity may continue for 2–3 weeks as pupae hatch and contact treated surfaces. We advise on whether a follow-up visit is needed.

What to expect afterwards

  • Stay off treated floors for the advised period — usually until surfaces are dry
  • Do not vacuum for at least 14 days after treatment to allow the residual product to remain active

Continued pet treatment throughout the post-treatment period significantly improves overall results.

Common questions

Flea treatment — questions we're often asked

This is normal and expected for 2–3 weeks after treatment. Flea pupae are protected inside their cocoons and are not killed by the insecticide — they hatch over the following weeks and are then eliminated when they contact the treated surfaces. Continued vacuuming helps accelerate this process.
Yes — treating your pets with a veterinary-grade flea product at the same time as the property treatment is important for effectiveness. Untreated pets act as a source of re-infestation.
The residual treatment remains active for several weeks. For persistent infestations or properties with ongoing pet activity, a follow-up visit may be recommended.
Yes. Flea pupae can remain dormant for months and hatch when vibration and warmth signals a host is present. This is why vacant properties can have a flea problem even without a current pet.
Yes — we recommend vacating the property during treatment and for the period advised afterwards, usually 1–2 hours until surfaces have dried.
