Treatment overview

How bed bug treatment works

Effective bed bug treatment requires targeting all life stages — including eggs, which are resistant to many standard contact insecticides. We use a combination of chemical treatments and heat application to achieve thorough elimination. Treatment scope depends on the level of infestation and number of rooms affected.

01
Inspection and scope
We assess the level of infestation, rooms affected, and confirm the treatment approach and any preparation required.
02
Preparation by client
You'll be advised on preparation steps before we arrive — bedding, clothing, and clutter management in affected rooms is important for effectiveness.
03
Chemical and heat treatment
Registered residual insecticide applied to all harborage points — mattress seams, bed frames, skirting, furniture joints, and crevices. Heat treatment applied where relevant.
04
Post-treatment guidance
We confirm re-entry timing, washing and handling instructions for bedding and clothing, and whether a follow-up visit is recommended.

What affects the price
  • Number of rooms affected
  • Level of infestation — light, moderate, or heavy
  • Treatment method — chemical, heat, or combination
  • Whether a follow-up visit is needed
  • Property type — residential, rental, or managed accommodation
Before treatment

Before we arrive

  • Remove all bedding and wash on the highest safe heat setting — seal in bags immediately after washing
  • Clear clutter from affected rooms — particularly around beds and furniture
  • Vacuum mattresses, bed frames, and carpeted areas before the visit if possible
  • Leave all furniture in place — do not move items between rooms as this can spread the infestation
After treatment

What to expect afterwards

  • Stay out of treated rooms for the time advised — usually 2–4 hours minimum
  • Wash and dry all bedding and clothing on high heat before use
  • Some residual activity may continue in the first week as bugs emerge and contact treated surfaces
  • Get in touch if significant activity continues beyond 2 weeks

Any more specific aftercare relevant to the property will be confirmed directly after treatment.

Common questions

Bed bug treatment — questions we're often asked

Not necessarily. Mattresses can often be treated effectively. We'll assess the condition and infestation level and advise accordingly.
A single thorough treatment is effective for many infestations. For heavier infestations or where eggs are present in hard-to-reach areas, a second visit 10–14 days later may be recommended.
Yes — bed bugs can spread through the property over time, particularly via bedding and clothing. It's important not to move items from affected rooms during treatment.
We'll confirm specific re-entry times and precautions relevant to your household when booking. Products are registered and applied to harborage areas.
Bed bugs are most commonly introduced via second-hand furniture, luggage after travel, or from neighbouring units in shared accommodation. They do not indicate poor hygiene.
